FactWatcher falls under the umbrella of "Computational journalism", a young field that assists journalism using computing. One of its objectives is to find news leads backed up by hard, factual data. It uses several database and data mining techniques to automatically find facts from structured data. FactWatcher demonstrates how all these techniques combined become effective for automatic fact finding in sports and weather domains. Applications of FactWatcher can also be found in automatic fact finding from social media, criminal records, government records, stock data, etc.
