The Lincshore 2015 project, part of an on-going, long-term programme of coastal defence works, involved the placing of approximately 500,00 m3 of sand along a 20 km section of the Lincolnshire coastline. The project was executed by Team Van Oord Ltd, a joint venture of Van Oord UK Ltd, Kier Group, JT Mackley and Royal HaskoningDHV.
To maintain the beach profile levels and protect the toe of the hard sea defences, an annual programme of sand re-nourishment takes place. Failure to protect the hard sea defences could potentially place 30,000 homes and businesses, 19,000 static caravans and 35,000 hectares of agricultural sand at risk.
The majority of the beach nourishment works were performed by trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 316. In addition, the works were supported by trailing suction hopper dredger Dravo Costa Dorada. The effective utilisation of both the HAM 316 and the Dravo Costa Dorada enabled the works to be completed ahead of the originally agreed schedule.
