Chikita Violenta are not new to the business: they’ve already recorded three albums, played several times in the US, and toured with Built To Spill and Ra Ra Riot – among others. So we expected their sharp, punchy, and sometimes noisy rock – at times quite similar to Broken Social Scene or Phoenix – to prove as inventive unplugged as on disc and on stage. We had no idea they had taken the session so seriously, rehearsing for days to finally be able to play their songs without amplifying any instrument. In particular they had polished the percussion, replacing conventional drums with an empty water bottle, a piggybank, guitar cases and even potato chips!
