Berlin-Neukölln’s Jerusalem cemetery becomes a working, learning and perspectively also a living space for refugees.
JugendKunst- und Kulturhaus Schlesische 27 (House for YouthCulture and Art Schlesische 27) and raumlabor Berlin (space laboratory Berlin) practise in their project ‘Die Gärtnerei’ (The Market Garden) exemplarily, what cannot yet be accomplished within society’s conventions.
A space for alternative ways of professional training, playful economies, and room for discourse of new social understandings emerges, with a school and event location, workshops and with the garden area, and which also involves the neighbourhood.
The protestant cemeteries on the Northern edge of Tempelhofer Feld used to be urban periphery and are now located within the gentrification area Schillerkiez.
Here, an experimental gardening project, a newly established Bulgarian-Orthodox church, a memorial for the church’s forced labour camp and social housing become direct neighbours and overlapping forms of usage.
