Totò è il sindaco della sua città natale, e i cittadini decidono di regalargli un cavallo. È un gran giorno quando il sindaco monta per la prima volta l’animale, dopo aver fatto una involontaria caduta col sedere in una pozzanghera piena di fango. Quando Totò si allontana al trotto dalla città, si trova in difficoltà ben peggiori, perché il cavallo apparteneva un tempo a un reggimento e per sfortuna sente le trombe di uno squadrone di cavalleria che sta passando: l’animale parte allora al galoppo per raggiungerlo, vincendo ogni resistenza del suo cavaliere.
Il video è il riversamento da una copia positiva conservata dal Museo Nazionale del Cinema a partire da un intervento di preservazione effettuato dall’EYE Filmmuseum (eyefilm.nl): 35mm, positivo, acetato, 73 m, 4’ a 18 fps, bianco e nero, didascalie olandesi, muto.
THE HORSE OF THE REGIMENT
Totò is the mayor of his hometown, and the citizens decide to give him a horse. It's a great day when the mayor, after making an involuntary fall in a puddle of mud, mounts for the first time the horse. But the trouble with the horse is that it once belonged to a regiment: as it hears the trumpets of a squadron passing by, the horse gallops to reach it – any attempt to stop the animal is now completely useless.
The video is a copy from the film print held by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema and previously restored by the EYE Filmmuseum (eyefilm.nl): 35mm, positive, acetate, 73 m, 4’ at 18 fps, black and white, Dutch intertitles, silent.
