Check out this edition of BiblioBoard Community Engagement Spotlights showcasing Charleston Library Society's 2015 Main Reading Room Exhibits Anthology. Here's what the library society's Special Collections Librarian, Anna Smith, had to say about curating their first Anthology:
Each month in the Main Reading Room at the Charleston Library Society, Debbie Fenn, our Curator and Historian, carefully curates a new exhibit based on a library or historical event, or a holiday, occurring during that month. These exhibits are always full of treasures and interesting history from our Special Collections and Archives. Our members and visitors are always intrigued by these exhibits and it’s a wonderful chance for us to share examples of what can be found in our unique collections. We began researching the best platform to archive Debbie’s hard work as well as share these with a wider audience. This is when we discovered BiblioBoard.
I am really pleased with how this first Anthology has turned out. BiblioBoard has proved to be a wonderful way for us to share these exhibits. Access to items from Internet Archive allows us to flesh out each month’s digital version of its exhibit with e-books of what we had on display. Creator gives us the opportunity to elaborate on historical context of materials that we have on display and provide access to them for a broader audience than we would have ever been able to before. In addition to all the benefits BiblioBoard provides by increasing our ability to easily share our collections beyond the walls of our library and the intuitive ease of using Creator, I am also very happy to know we are preserving all the effort Debbie puts into these amazing exhibits.
