A 16,500 acre holding rich in wildlife and collectively owned by the 499 households (6,000 people), the Il Ngwesi Group Ranch operates as a trust, with a Natural Resource Management Committee responsible for land management and a separate company that operates an exclusive 16 bed ecotourism lodge.
In 2002, Il Ngwesi Group Ranch won the Equator Prize which is awarded biennially to recognize outstanding community efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This video was created as part of our Biodiversity for Local Livelihoods project.
