ABSTRACT: "The proliferation of mobile, personal, social and related networked consumer technologies and applications presents many significant challenges to educational research. Initially, such challenges tend to be addressed in our field through technical and practical work. This has resulted in experiments with [SLIDE] Web syndication and educational social networks like Elgg or Ning, and innumerable conceptions of the architecture of the PLE. In this context, I believe it is important to begin by interrogating the very terms that we are using as the basis for such research. In addition to the possibility of closer analysis of our language, I also suggest reconceptualization of some of the most basic “spaces” in discussion of “environments” “ecologies” and also “theoretical frames.”
