Henry Ford Academy: Alameda School for Art + Design high school students will introduce their caravan of uncommonly beautiful creatures at Una Noche de La Gloria in San Antonio’s historic Westside Arts District. Nearly 150 students and staff from Henry Ford Academy: Alameda School challenged their imagination and artistic talents to create “La Freak Show,” curated by artist Anel I. Flores. Bearing a range of emotions, bizarre talents and distinctive features, “freaks” such as Penelope the Tight-Rope Walking Elephant, The World’s Strongest Trout, and the Retired Chupacabra Custodian are sure to charm Una Noche de La Gloria’s nearly 3,000 visitors. La Freak Show is presentation of dozens of two-dimensional multimedia collages and three-dimensional sculptures representing student-imagined hybrid creatures. Exhibit curator Anel I. Flores explains, “La Freak Show came to life to give beauty to what many people might see as abnormal, ugly or surreal.”
