This is the sequel to Playtime for Old People. After Doreen kept passing me on the Foothills Trail following her introduction to trikes, I decided the challenge of a notorious climb and descent would restore my ego. It turned out she had no difficulty with the steep switchbacks or descending back. However, since when it comes to recklessness and stupidity I have a decided edge over Doreen, I was able to overtake her on the downhill.
This ride was also the first test of the Quadraped as a climber. I proved itself well, especially as a fast climber. The use of chest as well as arm muscles and the fact that the push-pull of arms is more pronounced than that of legs enabled me to go up in a higher gear than I could have on the other trikes. Coming down fast was quite secure too--the tiller steering and drum brakes worked well. However, I needed both hands to operate them, so no hand-held video on descent. But the frame arrangement accommodated a tripod, so this is the first experiment out in the world with that camera position.
