James Kalm first viewed works by the young Tony Oursler at the Chelsea Art Fair in 1993. Since that early introduction, he's watched Oursler became one of the most recognized artists in America. Given his intense interest in, and use of high-tech systems of video projection and editing, with "Peak" Oursler creates miniature tableaus of poetic contrasts using tiny projectors balanced on thin stainless steel struts. Davis Kapp has been a respected presence on the New York scene for decades. This selection of recent paintings continues his painted depictions of street scenes but with an increased turn towards abstraction. Kapp's facility is only enhanced by his sensitive compositional design, use of high horizon lines, and strong shadows flattening these landscapes to near pattern like frontallity.
