PARTICIPIA (Participatory Integrated Assessment of Energy Systems to Promote Energy Access and Efficiency) is a three-year project funded under the EDULINK II programme; an ACP-EU Co-operation Programme in Higher Education funded by the European Development Fund (EDF) and the Development Co-operation Instrument – Relations with South Africa (DCI).
The PARTICIPIA project, coordinated by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), is aimed at creating Master’s programmes on "Participatory Integrated Assessment of Energy Systems" for the Namibia University of Science and Technology, the University of Botswana, and Stellenbosch University, South Africa. The project responds both to the practical need of promoting energy access and efficiency in Southern Africa and to the Edulink II Programme objective of fostering cooperation in higher education between the ACP Group of States and the EU.
The PARTICIPIA Master's programme provides a holistic approach to energy issues using concepts and tools from various disciplines, such as Participatory processes, Energy systems & engineering, GIS & Remote sensing, Production dynamics and financing, Complexity theory, Societal metabolism, and Governance of sustainability.
