Project Horus is a group of amateur balloon and amateur radio enthusiasts who launch helium balloons carrying various payloads aloft to the edge of space. Horus 8, launched on the 9th of October 2010 was intended to be a test flight for Horus 9 which was to be launched the following day (10.10.10) as part of the One Day on Earth project.
This flight however turned out to be quite eventful. You can read more about this at projecthorus.org/?page_id=1497 . What happened to Horus 8 can be seen in this video vimeo.com/16241165
Meanwhile, we did recover the footage from the camera that was flown, which was a GoPro Hero HD video camera. The footage was captured in 1080/30p. This short film is made up of material shot from that camera.
While this flight did reach altitudes of 31km (a shade under 100,000ft) and lasted nearly 8 hours, the camera unfortunately stopped recording at the 41 minute mark, and so we didnt get the high altitude video we were hoping for.
Enjoy!
