The piece is about the transitory nature of life and our intent to grasp, capture the instant. We were inspired by the transformations and history the Tempelherrenhaus has lived through.
We are using a cinematic approach, combining animation, digital and organic imagery, symbolism, poetry, imitation, prediction and emotion, our changing sense of space/non-space.
The Soundtrack is composed of original music and sound effects to convey the pass of time and the emotional journey of the Tempelherrenhaus.
Drawing from the urban patterns, landscapes and remains of activity, the piece explores a notion of choice, linked to desire and memory - choice being the present, memory representing the past and desire, the drive for a future. What we want (desire) is connected to or conflicting with what is expected from us (identity, memory), and choice is the act upon which we build ourselves. Underneath these mirrored imageries lie many stories about limits, freedom and self-perception.
Its unique architecture allowed us to create various level of storytelling, as the building has shifted over time from its connection to nature, performative arts, social gatherings to contemplation.
We wanted to frame the connection between micro and macro, the invisible labyrinths that links us with the unconscious and the sudden changes that are beyond our expectations in life. Ideas and dreams are becoming objects, merging narrative moments with more mental-abstract states.
We explored the strangeness of the real and unreal, combining visual images, movement, music, voice and non-linear structures which aimed to revitalize and strengthen the intercommunication of different artistic languages. All objects are more than what first meets the eye. We navigated inside the subconscious, blurring dream, memory, and waking-life into a fascinating and breathtaking sensorial experience.
The result is a smooth succession of hypnotic and realistic illusions.
