Finding Zabel Yesayan is a journey of discovery into the life and work of one of the most prominent Western Armenian intellectuals of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This documentary recounts her turbulent life beginning in Constantinople; her firsthand experience of the massacres of Adana as a member of an Armenian fact-finding delegation in 1909; her survival during the Genocide in 1915, her ardent political struggles as a staunch supporter of Soviet Armenia; her emigration to Soviet Armenia and her miserable demise in exile in Siberia during the Stalinist purge. Rejected both by diaspora and Armenia for political reasons this film is an attempt to celebrate her life by following her footsteps based on family archives, novels, documents, photographs and reflections on her life and work.
