My grandma makes my absolute favorite dish, which is this Chinese dish called Sweet Vinegar Pig Trotter Stew. It is a dish that has lots of sweet, lots of sour, lots of fattiness from the pork, and I love to pour the hot stew over rice and chow down. It is a dish I especially enjoyed on rainy days.
It hit me one day - that there wasn't any video footage collected of her by the family. And as a filmmaker, I regret not thinking of this sooner, and am thankful that she is still with us.
On my next trip back to my hometown of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (I currently live in the U.S.), it was crucial to film with her and to have a piece that the family and future generations can remember grandma by.
