"...a sublime coming-of-age tale that is occupied with outsiders as it's main characters, offering a fresh and unique perspective on adolescent frustrations and connections." - UK FILM REVIEW
"a tenderness at it's core." - HUFFINGTON POST
"...honest and true" - CHICAGO TRIBUNE
"...a largely introspective, intimate drama that lingers even after the closing credits have rolled. It's the kind of film that reminds you why you love indie cinema in the first place." - THEINDEPENDENTCRITIC.COM
Tom, an overweight young man, takes refuge at his grandmother's cabin in rural Protection, IL, in an attempt to bury the years of being bullied and feeling rejected. While in town, he meets a precocious blind girl named Lilly, who shows him how to be accepted and loved. Tender, funny and dramatic, the film shows characters not often depicted onscreen as leads, in a unique coming of age story. Directed by James Choi and written by Judi Krant and Paul Boring.
James and Judi are the team behind "Made In China", the Grand Jury Winner for Best Film at SXSW in 2009. This is their second collaboration together.
"Empty Space" was produced in Chicago and shot entirely on location in small towns across Western, IL.
