One of three video channels highlighting different visual experiences of the Sharpstown Area that were embedded within the installation entitled "Remnants of the Past, Visions of the Future" on Fondren Rd. in Houston. This video is an amalgamation of views taken at ground level in spot of the Sharpstown that are open, and for the most part empty; spaces with untapped potential, whose fate is uncertain. The angle provides an unusual perspective, making the landscape appear even more vast, as well as providing closeup details of the normally unremarkable ground. The sampled spaces include both built (paved) expanses and wild, natural ones, as well as examples of in-between moments in which one is intruding upon the other. These samples are layered over each other transparently as the images transition, in an attempt to hint at the notion of constant flux, and to (perhaps unsuccessfully) romanticize an auto-centric urban landscape that is otherwise often perceived as ugly.
