Interview of Helena Uambembe to discuss her first solo exhibition at an art gallery in Pretoria called Longstreet Art lovers.
Her shoe titled I am/am I explores issues of identity and nationality. Being born of Angolan parents in South African Helena say it is an issues she always struggles with, and art is a way for her to address these issues.
She used the national animals of both these countries the Palanca Negra of Angola and the Spring bok of South Africa. She mutated these animals with her face creating intricate patterns.
