Northern Albania…breathtaking alpine settings…primeval forests…pristine rivers…One of them is the Valbona, the largest in the Albanian Alps. Almost its entire watershed is situated in a National Park. In terms of biodiversity and biomass this river probably has the highest potential of all… as it has for hosting a healthy, indigenous, wild trout population.
Continental Trout Conservation Fund, together with its local partner, EcoAlbania, is working on the restoration of the indigenous trout population in the Valbona River and its tributaries for the better of the indigenous trout and for the local people’s future.
We already have the moral support of managerial bodies on a national, regional, and local level in Albania, their scientific institutes, ngos labouring for the cause of Albanian nature and/or wildlife, and many a conservationist initiative in the Valbona valley, as well as local people who endorse and support our ideas and plans.
