This is a timeless and eerie tale, created with the hope of awakening within its viewers the childlike fascination and terror surrounding the creepiest day of the year—Halloween.
My eldest daughter and I wanted to make a little Halloween film to share with friends and family. The entire thing was envisioned, recorded, cut, and composited in about two and half weeks, and shot entirely on our little Canon PowerShot SD970.
The latter half of the short was filmed on location at Thompson Farms in Boring, Oregon, while the rest we recorded at various spots nearby our Portland suburban home.
I utilized the green screen from Fashionbuddha Studio to shoot some of the composited shots at home in our kitchen, and definitely appreciate the time they allowed me to discuss and tinker with the film.
Natalie and I had the idea to create a different short film last October, but never actually got around to doing it. This year, with a little inspiration from 31daysofhalloween.wordpress.com, and a lot of inspiration from the beautiful score, we did it. I'd zip home from work, she'd hop in the car and we'd utilize the last 30 minutes of sunlight to shoot as much as possible. Natalie demonstrated a passion for the project I hadn't seen before in her.
This project was a joy to make, and we hope you can find some enjoyment in it too.
