Kalarippayat (Kalari) is an ancient lineage of embodied knowledge based on the way of nature. It's origin is lost in time as Kalari is an accumulation of wisdom - with influences from the first people's of India to the vast knowledge from the Tantras, Vedas and Buddhist traditions. Kalari has been passed down from teacher to student as an intact oral and movement based practice. One human's mind and body consciousness, passed on to another, for thousands of years, right up to today. Kalari is a living, breathing tradition.
And so, as society flows and changes, so does Kalari. Yet it also remains the same. The basic premise of Kalari is that there is conflict in the world, both within our minds and bodies, and between people and nations. Kalari is a way to bring harmony to conflict. The tradition, along with its sister sciences of Tantra, Buddhism, Ayurveda and Yoga provide practical guidelines which teach us the way of nature, the way of anti-fragility - how to flow and grow with the greater current of life.
