This piece is a story I filmed and co field produced in Afghanistan in May 2010 for TIME Magazine's website, TIME.com. It follows U.S. State Department personnel who are working on the ground in partnership with the military. In addition to the military's "surge" of soldiers, the State Dept. have recently increased their numbers by more than a 1000.
Working in the field with me was photojournalist Guy Calaf. In addition to co producing the piece, he also shot all of the black & white images for the story with a Hasselblad medium format film camera. In New York, producer/editor Karlyn Michelson put all the pieces together in a excellent timeline.
All of the footage was filmed in HD on a Sony EX-1 at 30P.
