Since the top of the wheel moves forward against the wind at twice the vehicle speed, headwinds are greatly magnified above the axle, dominating over any crosswind drag. Since the wheel is stationary at ground level, headwinds are essentially absent below the axle. Here, crosswinds dominate drag. SPOKE FINS automatically adjust to this continuously shifting wind vector, optimally reducing drag on the spoke, especially on the critical upper spoke surfaces.
