#42 Your Ministries and the Form 990_ Understand Who Files and How to Avoid Common 990 Pitfalls

During this webinar, Laura Solomon, Esq. and Matthew Hamm, Esq. of Laura Solomon & Associates will explore the IRS Form 990 “information return” for tax-exempt organizations within the Religious Institute context. The webinar will address common misconceptions and will review exemptions from filing applicable to Religious Institutes and the civil entities through which they conduct their mission and ministries. Laura and Matt will explore the Form 990 itself, its purpose, and its many parts and will discuss in-depth the most common Form 990 pitfalls and tips to avoid them. Participants will understand who is required to file and who is exempt, and will take away an overview of the Form 990, potential pitfalls, and filing tips.

Matt’s work includes start-ups, corporate, tax, and employment advice, and services related to nonprofit mergers, dissolutions, and affiliations. He joined the firm in July 2015. Previously, he was an associate with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in Washington, DC where he advised nonprofit organizations on a variety of corporate and tax matters.
