My first eye zoom test. Created using Apple Motion, FCP, Soundtrack Pro and Color. All footage shot on Canon 7D with 50mm lens.
At first, I was trying to put the runner's feet under the face shot and mask out the eyes, but that didn't work out too well because of masking and blend modes. I eventually put the runner on top and used the 3D camera to zoom. I used the soft light blend mode and a lower opacity for the runner's reflection in the eyes.
I tracked the white reflection in the eye footage, created the effect in one eye and then just copied it to the other. I've heard that our eyes really see everything upside down and our brains flip the image, so that's why I decided to put the reflection upside down and have it rotate 180 degrees on the zoom.
Originally, I had motion blur turned on, but it seemed to lose too much clarity. Anyone know how to control the amount of motion blur?
Any feedback welcome!
