EVENT: Press Conference followed by Ceremonial Signing by Governor Gary Herbert
WHEN: April 19, 2016 from 10:00 - 10:45am MT
WHERE: Utah State Capitol, Gold Room. This event will also be live streamed online at endsexualexploitation.org/publichealth/
WHY: Utah is on the cutting edge of addressing the pervasive public health crisis of pornography in America. On April 19, Utah Governor Gary Herbert will complete a ceremonial signing of the Utah resolution declaring pornography a public health crisis. This resolution was passed unanimously by the Utah House of Representatives and State Senate. The press conference will address the reasons why Utah’s resolution is vital for the sexual health of future generations. Pornography fosters child sexual abuse and fuels the demand for sexually trafficked women and children. Further, research shows there are links between pornography and violence against women, increased STI rates, and increased sexual dysfunction. A multi-disciplinary public health approach to the pandemic of pornography is necessary and has the potential to effect substantial change in health care professions, governmental policies, and culture at large.
