Acoustic Life of Sheds -Ten Days on the Island Festival 2015.The Acoustic Life of Sheds premiere event took place across 5 locations in Tasmania – from Wynyard to Milabena via Table Cape and Boat Harbour – on March 21st-22nd and 28th-29th as part of the 2015 Tasmanian International Arts Festival.
Acoustic Life of Sheds works with rural communities to celebrate food provenance and rural culture, through the ephemera and ambiance of farm sheds, and the hands that gather the produce.
For this premiere, audiences took a pilgrimage through the natural cathedral of Tasmania’s North West Coast to experience the world premiere of new works by award-winning composers, presented in the locations that inspired them. Across five rural properties, sheds became performance venues, sites for installation and sound art, providing a radical, new context for the creation and presentation of contemporary Australian art music. The project simultaneously generated community pride locally, and awareness of rural decline and the importance of food provenance among new festival audiences.
