Coffee and cafés’ have become integral to our modern society. Our interactions with coffee and its surroundings have evolved over time, from being solely a pick me up, to a social connector. At present day, Sensory Lab is testing this evolution in the coffee experience, but what is the future of the café and coffee?
SIXTH SENSE is an attempt to visualise this future, where social media integrates seamlessly with daily life. Through SIXTH SENSE, personal information can be shared through physical interaction with virtual activators.
With the upcoming generation’s new-found willingness to share and ‘update’ personal status, Sensory Lab will be able to expand its goals, from bringing in new coffee experience, to heightening the level of social interaction.
Cafés thus evolve with technological advancement, without losing its original use. The café becomes a space where the brain is constantly stimulated by information; strangers pass-by and leave a mark, a comment is made and the repercussions ripple out into the social fabric, reminiscent of cafés in Paris, or beer halls in Bavaria.
Through managing augmented reality, a new sense is overlaid upon the human
cognitive, as the act of traveling between virtual and physical realm becomes a
sub-conscious activity. Here, a SIXTH SENSE is created.
