CUPIS is a project founded by electronic composer and Dj Giovanni Verga with sax player Gianni Gebbia joined in 2015 by video artist Sara Picco.
After the first album "Prelogical institutions" (Object-A, 2013) CUPIS has released the new audiovisual work, "Avoiding The Sun" recorded in Berlin in 2015.
CUPIS has composed the music for the reading: "Contro l´Architettura" by anthropologist and writer Franco La Cecla in Palermo and Porto Venere in 2010, afterwards the duo has been active composing the soundtrack for the documentary "Palermo/Tunisi A/R" by Rosario Reginella in 2014 and performing various audio/visual shows in Berlin (Sameheads, Bauchund, Loophole, Sowieso) and in Japan.
Sara Picco after the degree in painting at the Academy of fine arts of Bologna, moved to Berlin in 2008 where she works in multimedia art field.
With the multimedia work "Avoiding The Sun" CUPIS explores the boundaries between organic sounds and repetitive musical structures represented by the visuals that build up undiscovered and mysterious ways to reveal the obscure sides of what nature hides.
The saxophone is sampled in a dimension where the sound sources (electronic and acoustic) are blended and merged together with the images into a Fata Morgana or cosmic mirage.
