So one fun thing that you might not know about me is yes, I manage a dental practice but I'm also extremely dental phobic. Well, let me rephrase that and say that I was extremely dental phobic. It took about a year working here before they could even get me in the chair for a cleaning. I think I was pretty traumatized with my care as a child. I'm pretty sure a dentist dropped an instrument on my face. So that experience in itself was enough for me to say, "I'm not interested in getting in that chair."
But once I did, I started to really understand that there were things that needed to be done because over time, they weren't going to get any better. I couldn't ignore it any longer. And honestly the experience that I had just at that first hygiene appointment really helped to relieve a lot of those fears and that previous anxiety.
Some of the cool things that they do here at Atlanta Dental Spa is, when you walk in the door, we've got this waterfall that just instantly gives you a calming effect. Everybody that you speak to, from our appointment coordinator at the front to the hygiene assistant that's going to get you back in the chair, everybody is so friendly and warm and you feel that and it's very genuine.
Once you get in that chair, our hygiene team, they're going to offer you a paraffin hand wax and they're going to put these warm, wonderful gloves on your hands. There's this TV in the ceiling. You can watch whatever you want, whether it's Breaking Bad or Housewives of Atlanta. It's your choice. And we've also got noise cancelling headphones, so any of those sounds that you just really fear or hate when you get in that chair, you're not going to hear any of that stuff.
Throughout the appointment, the hygienist is going to talk to you about every little thing that she's doing that you want to know so you can understand what your mouth looks like, what your teeth look like, the state of your gums. And they're going to go through this process step by step so that you feel much more comfortable while you're in that chair.
So let me talk to you about what it's like to actually get in the dental chair. I have had a lot done at this office. I've had root canals, I've had a couple crowns, I've had extractions. I actually have an implant as well. So I have had experience with all of our doctors here and I can tell you that, just like our hygiene team, our doctors and their clinical assistants, they do everything to make you as comfortable and secure as possible.
Dr. Curry here does offer IV sedation for our patients that have extreme dental anxiety. I've had sedation actually several times because I've had to go through the implant process which was, to my recollection, pretty painless. And I say that because I don't remember any of it.
I know the team has some fun videos, but that's an indication of what your experience is like in the chair. If you're afraid of the dentist, this is the place to go because the team here does everything in their power to make you comfortable. We'll make you laugh. We'll talk about all the options you have for your anxiety to make this visit as comfortable for you as possible.
