'The Sand Creek Massacre Spiritual Healing Run and Walk' is a yearly event in Colorado. It is an endurance run that helps make people aware of the senseless massacre of Cheyenne and Arapahoe people at Sand Creek in 1864. Cheyenne/Arapahoe youth run from the massacre site in Eads, Colorado to Denver to heal the ancestral wound caused by the massacre.
Derek Brown and Mattea Wellnitz created this piece while students at The Art Institute of Colorado. It was nominated for a student Emmy in 2009 and showed at The Indigenous Film Festival the same year.
