On October 22, 2010, the students and staff at H. W. Smith K-8 held a Festival of Nations dedicated to the memory of Bob Huss, recently deceased founder of the Refugee Center.

The students began with a parade of the flags of the nations of the countries in our school, led by a representative student from that nation. The assembly then continued with presentations from students in the different grades throughout the building. The highlight of the assembly was a chorus and garbage band presentation, celebrating the heritages of all our students.

HW Smith is comprised of students from all corners of America and all corners of the world. the presentation celebrated the unique heritages of all of us and how working together, we can all bring peace to our global world.
