Labayen Dance/SF in “BROKEN COLUMN” , new dances from multi-award winning choreographer Enrico Labayen that explores love, heartbreak, greed, ambition, intrigue, gender, the environment and the manufacturing of emotions. Enrico Labayen seamlessly weaves story-telling, theatre and ballet and contemporary dance with layers of sound and visuals and he embeds intimate and exposing autobiographical stories in broader political contexts, creating performance that is socially relevant and resonates with many different people’s experiences. Labayen will be presenting the world premiere of “Icarus at the Edge”; “Frida Kahlo: Broken Column”; “Butterfly”, “En-Gulf-ed” & an encore performance if last season’s favorite “Esquisses”. Featured dancers are Labayen Dance/SF’s Daiane Lopes, Leda Pennell, Irene Hsiao, Karen Meyers, Alyson Abriel, Never Navarro, Jaidah Terry, Lizz Dunn and Diane Mateo with guest artists David Chase, former member of the Martha Graham Dance Company and Clover Mathis, former principal dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey Dance Company with special participation of dance artist, Carlos Venturo and Ms. Laura Bernasconi.
