This piece explores, accentuates, and enlarges the activity of an imagined neuron. Commonly discussed simply in terms of their ability to "fire”, the incredible complexity of individual neurons is often overlooked. An entire ecosystem of proteins and particles and cellular machinery exist within each and every neuron, determining the pattern, present and future, of its activity.
The projection is mapped onto and around the neuron using a Kinect, and the sculpture itself is made from stainless steel, chicken wire, and acrylic. It is suspended in the air by fishing lines attached to nearby walls. The code generating the projection was developed in openFrameworks, heavily utilizing OpenCV.
Materials - wire, stainless steel, acrylic, generative code
