The sun glistens through the trees of a forty-acre horse farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Children get off the bus and run up a long gravel driveway. Dewayne Washington runs to his mother waiting on the other side of a heavy mechanical gate. The gate screeches open revealing a large building on top of the hill. Dewayne and his family are among the forty residents staying at GreenHouse17, a domestic violence shelter. Dewayne’s mother is one of seven women who are physically abused by their partner in their lifetime. This documentary chronicles the transformation of Dewayne’s life in and out of the shelter.
