I love solving problems! For this scene (a gruesome depiction of escaped "convicts" of the asylum attacking patients), we needed to allow the player the freedom to navigate the room while most of the cinematic played out. Originally, the character models were to appear in place, and stay in place until we finally took control of the camera for the outtro cinematic. This, unfortunately, proved boring. My solution to this was to propose a series of "flashes," and after each "flash," the models would change their pose (an orderly would be applying first aid in one flash, and holding his hands up in despair in the second, for example), implying far more kinetic action than we could possibly do in-engine for a large scene like this. The experiment was successful, and I implemented this cinematic from front-to-back, including placing the models and poses, timing their transitions, scoring the audio, and setting up the final camera grab at the end. Very chilling and satisfying!
