Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death in resource poor countries such as Uganda. Bulamu uses the simple but effective vinegar test to screen and cryotherapy to treat patients who test positive for precancerous lesions. This method is not only quick but also very affordable and sustainable. It has a potential of saving millions of rural women who face a risk of full blown cancer in the absence of timely detection and treatment. The cryogun machine used here goes for only $2000 and uses carbon dioxide gas to freeze the precancerous cells. Dr Mui a Peace Corps volunteer in partnership with Bulamu is dedicated to recruiting more OB/GYNs to volunteer their time and expertise in not only treating patients but also training local medical personnel in this procedure. Bulamu is committed to reducing the incidence of cervical cancer death in Uganda and is seeking partners to support this effort.
