This 37-minute video, taken from a 2016 risk communication seminar, uses the "hazard versus outrage" distinction to identify three key risk communication paradigms:
(1) Precaution advocacy (high-hazard, low-outrage)
(2) Outrage management (low-hazard, high-outrage)
(3) Crisis communication (high-hazard, high-outrage)
Most of the video focuses on outrage management.
The seminar was presented on February 2-3, 2016 in Sydney, Australia for the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority. Other environmental regulators from throughout Australia were invited, courtesy of the Australasian Environmental Law Enforcement and Regulators Network (AELERT), which videotaped the first morning. AELERT then created this edited excerpt. The unedited video is at vimeo.com/166620414.
GHD, an Australia-based engineering and environmental consulting firm, brought me to Australia for this and other events.
