This talk was given at Willow Garage on Sep 30th 2010 by Tim Niemueller. The main topic is the port of the Fawkes behavior engine, a framework written in Lua for robotic behavior development, execution, and monitoring, to the ROS robot software. It describes the work conducted at Intel Labs Pittsburgh and the Robotics Institute of the Carnegie Mellon University during a research stay supervised by Prof. Siddharta Srinivasa, PhD.
First is a short introduction about Fawkes, for the necessary background of the behavior engine, and a brief comparison to ROS. The talk then introduces the concepts and ideas of the behavior engine and how it was ported to ROS using roslua. It presents some results of employing the behavior engine on HERB, Intel's Home Exploring Robot Butler. It concludes with an outlook of the speaker's future work at Intel Labs Pittsburgh in the second half of 2010.
