The word 'tor' usually means a mass, or hill, of rocks but it can also mean a mass of cloud. Aetherius refers to the properties of the ether or sky. So the title can be taken to mean “storm clouds” or perhaps “floating rock.” In either case, the title is metaphorical of the materials and techniques used in the creation of the work. The sound was created primarily with James McCartneys’ Supercollider software with a little Csound and Juan Pampin’s Analysis/Transformation/Synthesis software as well. Rick Taube’s Common Music was used for algorithmic score generation. The video was created using POV-Ray, Adobe AfterEffects and Premiere. Some of the rhythmic masking effects in the video were created using my own lisp code to algorithmically generate Quicktime movies.
This was my Master's Thesis.
