A widowed Tibetan street hawker struggles to school her 7-year-old son, against the wishes of her father-in-law. In desperation, she brings him to Beijing and offers to give him to a foreign correspondent. The foreigner unwittingly gets drawn into a family feud.
This dramatic story is the first verite film about Tibetan farmers who migrate to Han Chinese cities. It challenges stereotypes about this marginalized groups held both in the West and in China.
