Half Straddle's GHOST RINGS Trailer
Filmed at New York Live Arts on April 2016. Filmed + Edited by Linas Phillips.
“Fantastical, odd and sometimes so tender it’s raw, “Ghost Rings” is a pop concert with a drama inside, about trying to make sense of the hole in your soul when the person you believed would stick around forever drifts away.” - Laura Collins-Hughes, The New York Times
“Satter’s women fantasize about procreation without men, about holding a piece of another woman in their bodies. In language that is revelatory through its very strangeness, Satter echoes this desire.”
– Jennifer Cayer, Culturebot
“This abstract and wild pop-song-cycle crafts an absurdist exploration of romantic friendship, intimacy, and sisterhood. Featuring excellent performances, a blood-pumping score, and heartrending biography, Ghost Rings is a haunting blend of mediums.” - Rachel Kerry, New York Theater Review
With text and lyrics by Tina Satter, the “genre-and-gender-bending, visually exacting stage artist” (The New York Times) and music by Chris Giarmo and Erin Markey, joined by performer Kristen Sieh, GHOST RINGS unfurls a narrative of contemporary friendship and family-making told through virtuosic performances and evocative design. Mixing deadpan magical realism with Tina's recollections of her missing sister, the resulting piece is a tender, harrowingly funny, unexpected musical experience.
