documentary for ZDF/3sat, 85 min, 2010
Young people from Berlin and five of its partner cities (Beijing, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Windhoek and Moscow) conquer spaces of their cities and turn them into a stage to explore their dreams and longings, with activities and events like Cosplay, Parkour, Spoken Word and Graffiti.
Everybody is fighting for a piece of their identity and is dreaming of becoming a star.
At the same time, everybody has his own codes, rituals and perceptions of what is considered as cool.
The project “CITY CODE” not only explores the latest trends among young people worldwide. It also shows in which way everyday life can be the breeding ground, or stage, for perfecting their own image and for the social advancement of young people on five different continents.
Perhaps a document of regional differences, before globalization gradually levels them.
