A grassy field once sat unused behind Inglewood Presbyterian Church on Finn Hill. Now, the tranquil space, surrounded by wetlands and trees, is home to a new community garden.
Tom Stephenson and his wife Annette had the idea for the garden two years ago when Annette began a community kitchen that she ran out of the church. When community kitchen regulars asked if she had a p-patch, Tom and Annette decided to take on the project - dig the trenches for irrigation, seek out the best soil, and create a space for the Finn Hill community to come together and learn more about organic practices. Now, about half of the spaces are rented out by neighbors of the church and even a preschool that meets on church grounds.
Plots are 72 square feet and can be rented for $48 a year.
