Search Engines are the gateway to information in the Internet. It is increasingly important that web search remains independent from commercial Search Engine companies.
We present 'YaCy', a free-software, open-source Web Search Engine based on the principles of peer-to-peer computing. Using this software everyone can operate a Search Engine or even a very large Search Engine cluster containing an index of billions of web pages.
We want to achieve independence from major search portal operators through a free, distributed web search technology which is powered by the world's users.
We demonstrate how everyone can set up a search service for web- and ftp-sites, make use of sitemaps and keep a search up-to-date with rss feeds. You will be able to do this yourself in just five minutes.
