Nick Makoha, Creative Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Goldsmiths, University of London has started the filming of Black Metic Poet interviews as part of his project on the Metic experiences of Black British Writers. The term ‘Metic’ translates as foreigners or resident aliens whose allegiances are split between their homeland and their new country coined by Nick explaining the phenomena.
Esteem poets including Chris Abani, Elizabeth Alexander, Gregory Parldo, Warsan Shire, Kei Miller, Kayo Chingonyi, Malika Booker and Anthony Joseph will be interviewed.
Nick is working alongside Maura Dooley and Professor Joan Anim-Addo at Goldsmiths, University of London, to create an in depth online digital archive which will include these interviews as a permanent fixture at The Goldsmiths Writers’ Centre. The project has gained support from Free Word, Spread The Word and The Poetry Society.
