Singing Mr. Cedric is a lyrical song book taken from the libretto of a persona that could be perceived in the context of a Bartley the Scribner metaphor for an individual of advancing age grappling with inevitable reality of personal mortality. As the underpinnings of the fabric of life change, transform and fade into the past one finds small comfort in the prospect of an uncertain, unsettling future. Only questions marks seem to be the clearest signposts on the road ahead. One that is much closer to the end than what stretches far back into a personal history of memory and experience. As off-springs mature and no longer need nurturing and long stand relationships bare little resemblance to their former continuity Cedric is left with the silence and truth of solitude. Entering this plane of existence alone is a foreshadowing of exactly how one shall exit. As the last vestiges of youth fade and grayer forms of flesh encroach every single second of the Terrible Now becomes more and more precious. What else could anyone do fully recognizing and embracing this inoperable, non-negotiable revelation but ……sing ?
