ETHETICS (ethics+aesthetics) is a series exploring and celebrating ethical and socially responsible brands around the world. We're dedicated to the telling of alluring stories that provoke the eco-conscious and the eco-curious. Created by Amber Moelter & Luis Barreto Carrillo (aka Noir Tribe), in partnership with the International Trade Centre's Ethical Fashion Initiative.
In our first episode of Ethetics, Keith Henning gives us a tour of the AKJP Collective, which showcases designs from a range of talented South African makers, including Episode 2 designers Lukhanyo Mdingi and Nicholas Coutts. Back at his studio he introduces some of his team and shares with us the AKJP AW16 menswear collection, inspired by artist Georgina Gratrix’s art and impasto brushwork. After a trip to the Woodheads leathery we end up at the SvenMill factory, where their jacquard is made. We had the incredible opportunity to show some of the standouts of the AW16 menswear collection in the environment in which it was made, on model Martin Gareth Magner.
ETHETICS Episode 1: AKJP premiered at the BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2016 and premiered online at Vogue Italia (vogue.it/en/vogue-talents/video-lab/2016/12/22/ethetics-ethical-fashion-initiative-noir-tribe-akjp-mdingi-coutts). It was nominated for Best Documentary at the Mercedes-Benz Bokeh South African Fashion Film Festival and is an Official Selection at The Canadian International Fashion Film Festival, Copenhagen Fashion Film Festival, and Academy Award Qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Japan.
