Lo que Aparece y Desaparece (What Appears and Disappears) is a new body of work cre¬ated by the Las Gallas Collective that investigates the act of personal documentation, how one leaves ones “print” and how that print narrates the history of an individual. LAS GAL¬LAS is a multi-disciplinary collective of Latinas using dance, art, poetry, and whatever else they can get their hands into, to communicate their respective and collective messages. Julia Lopez, Michelle Angela Ortiz, and Magda Martinez, current members, bring their mul¬tidisciplinary oleo of performance art, paintings, prints, writings, and films to untraditional spaces often focusing on their personal lives as Artists, Latinas, Women, and friends. In this new mixed-media installation of prints, sculptures, video and photography, specifically cre¬ated for Taller Puertorriqueño, Las Gallas will present the complexities of memory and how humans document and manifest them. The need to document, make a mark, and create an imprint of ones existence is interpreted through personal stories of other women who participated in a series of workshops organized and provided by Las Gallas at Taller.
